Poor you. You’ve stumbled across Infamy and Entropy. Quick, back out, before it is—

Ah, it is too late. You’re trapped.

It seems to you that you will never get into this site; the group is so tight-knit, the plot so complicated, there’s always something going on—though it’s extremely intimidating at first, let’s just take one thing at a time.

Do not fret! This friendly little guide is here to help you out during every step of your journey. So just sit back, pay attention, remember to breathe, and you’ll be just fine. xD

The first step: read the plot.
This seems like a painfully obvious step, but the second you see that huge page, it looks terribly scary. The thing is, however, post without knowing what the plot is and you don’t exactly make a good impression. Manda gets this look on her face whenever you ask to be a Muggle-born Gryffindor…

The thing is, are you going to join if you don’t know what’s doing on? Of course not. It is highly recommended that you go to the plot page. It is beautiful writing and it is so much more awesome than my dinky little summary. This is really supposed to be a teaser, to draw you into our bottomless abyss lovely little site here. The link to the plot page is here (for the current plot).
Keep in mind these things, because they tend to trip people up:
  • most people in this society are vehemently pro-whoever the heck is in power these days. Remember that everyone has been fed propaganda for nearly a century at this point. You will need excellent reasons as to why your character joined the Resistance or is even neutral.
  • Muggles, though technically free, are NOT a commonplace. Most people have never been in contact with them. Most hate them with a passion that simply cannot be explained and some would even kill them on the spot if they saw one. So being chums with a Muggle, unless you're from the Italian Resistance, perhaps, would be very unlikely.
  • there are no, well, very few, Muggle items
  • there is religion. You can be Christian or Hindu or Jewish or whatever you would like, but the idea is that Voldemort always comes first.
The second step: post an application
Browse through the canon list, found here. There are some truly great canons in there. I am going to abandon all discretion and beg to you on my knees to please, please, please, make a non-English character, and if not, at least create a male character. As with many roleplay sites, Infamy and Entropy has a large amount of female characters. However, this is not the overwhelming problem. We have truly awesome plots going on around Europe, in France, in Italy and in Bulgaria, but unfortunately, we do not have as many people as we would have liked to carry them out.

    Some tips when you’re writing:
  • mind word minimums/maximums. We’re pretty lenient folks with this, but if we ask for say, ten likes, we don’t like seeing two. :]
  • don’t post half finished apps. They make me sad, sometimes they never get finished, I don’t know when to delete them. It’s awkward for all of us. Save it in a word processor or your Control Panel even!
  • remember to explain allegiances well, especially if you’ve got a resistance character.
  • and the cardinal rule when writing an app; make your character as believable as possible. <3
The third step: start plotting:
This seems like an elementary step, but for beginners, it’s always something they miss. Post up a plot page. You can find some freebie plot pages here. Use them if you don't feel like spending ages making your own! The purpose of a plot page is to establish a history between your character and someone else’s without having to roleplay those tiresome “We’ve just met,” threads.

Post like crazy in plot threads. A lot of new people tend to do this, so that isn’t the issue. The issue is actually ever getting a thread up, because let’s admit it, we’re all busy. If you’re a new member, try putting up a new thread and see how your characters seem to interact. Do this especially if you’re even considering a romance between characters; there’s nothing more annoying than deciding crushes and futures and finals and then finding out that the characters don’t work out.
And there you have it! You are well on your way to a beautiful life here at I&E!
